Today I was out for a run and I passed a young woman wearing a t-shirt that said in big neon block letters on a black background: “Don’t Waste My Time.”  I smiled at her as I ran by and kept thinking about her shirt.  There was something about it, something missing–and then I got it.  It was missing an “I”.

I Don’t Waste My Time.”  Now that is a powerful statement!

The other, “don’t waste my time” puts all the power outside of oneself.  It says that another person is capable of wasting your time, when in reality it’s all up to you what you do with your time.  It’s a victim mentality, to be quite blunt.  Not only is it a victim mentality of feeling powerless to change the situation–it puts all the blame on everyone else, in addition to being off putting to those of us who are minding our own time 🙂

So, what do you waste your time with?  Worry?  Anxiety?  Anger?  Emotional Upset?  Resentment? What about relationships, activities and beliefs that drag you down?

To be clear here, I’m not talking about judging yourself as “wasting time” if you’re getting some much needed R&R. I’m talking about the fear, anxiety, negative self-talk, poor communication, limiting beliefs and emotional upsets that waste your precious time, energy & breaths in this lifetime.

What kind of freedom would you experience if you could let that stuff go?

Who would really be in charge of your time?

I have seen just how much time I’ve wasted in my own life.  I blamed others for wasting my time, when in reality I was the one wasting my own time getting upset about others doing (or not doing!) things in a certain way (basically the way I wanted it done).

I choose to be in charge of my time.  Frankly, I’m not entirely sure what that will look and feel like–I imagine it’s awake, aware, alive, at peace.

Sounds like a nice way to spend one’s time–don’t you think?
